Where and Wear | Istanbul

Looking for a summer vacation idea?   Me too!  The truth is that I only want to go to Turkey, but this time take my kids.   It remains to be seen what I do for this year's adventure with #Halestorm,   but I have already packed my bag mentally.

WHERE: Istanbul, Turkey.  The legendary capital of two of the world's greatest empires. A gorgeous bustling Eden of food, culture, and the shimmering Bosphorus.  This old Ottoman stronghold is resplendent in old world ways abutted by a modern bustling European metropolis.

Stay at an incredible hotel, like the The Edition Istanbul, gorgeous and modern, luxurious and discreet.   I have never been so taken with a hotel.   It must be the intoxicating propriety scent of the Edition candles and  toiletries.

Eat at Dukkan Burger  or Wagamama for quick delicious bites near the hotel, or find something more authentically Ottoman through the hotel concierge or check out Bon Appetit's guide.   The Levant neighborhood is home to world class shopping, international cuisine, Istanbul's tallest skyscraper, and other ultra modern finds, including Harvey Nichols.

See everything that you can; here is where Europe and Asia meet.   The towering minarets, the enchanting call to prayer, the water front view from Dolmahace Palace.   I would plan on 6 full days to explore Istanbul completely, and in very quality way.  Sights you shouldn't miss: Aya, Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace, Galata Tower, a cruise of the Bosphorus, and The Four Seasons Istanbul  (a former prison).    A great guide to the city can be found at The Guardian.

WEAR: Pick an easy to work with palette to help make packing easier.   I like black, ivory, and denim for most trips with an added bonus pop of color like fuchsia or cobalt.   Istanbul is colorful and vibrant, but that doesn't mean your clothing should rival that.   I think that understated and flattering is the best way to go.

Key pieces; sleek jumpsuit, cross body bag, black midi skirt, gladiator sandals, a cotton top with a great detail, beach and pool suit and cover-up, and a perfect jean { I am loving Frame Denim}. A critical piece to remember when you travel if you are going to be visiting religious sites is a scarf to cover your head and shoulders.
